Biggest turnout for a “Dairy of Distinction” family photo
The Rounsaville family of DeRuyter is the proud “Dairy of Distinction” winner this year in Madison County. They join 37 current winners in the county dating back to 1983 when the Northeast Dairy Farm Beautification Program began.
Almon Rounsaville Sr., his wife Betty, and their three sons, Almon Jr., Alan and Arron and their families milk 105 Holstein and Holstein/Jersey crosses on this 285 acre dairy operation. They grow corn for corn silage and high moisture corn, soybeans, and hay.
The farm is located in a picturesque setting between Sheds and DeRuyter. Al began his dairy farming career in New Jersey, but decided to move to this farm in 1978. Since then, they made continuous improvements like clearing land, building tower and bunk silos, adding a free stall barn, developing a comprehensive nutrient management plan for the farm, and adding a larger bulk tank — to name a few.
At the same time, they’ve used existing facilities in the most economical way that doesn’t sacrifice cow comfort.
The farm is truly a family operation. Congratulations to the Roundsville family.
