Legislative House Grant awarded to Rhode Island 4-H Club Foundation
(R-L) David R. Burnham, Chairman, RI 4-H Club Foundation; Rep. Michael A Rice; and Dr. Richard C. Rhodes III, Associate Dean, Research and Outreach at the College of the Environment and Life Science, URI.

On Sept. 22, in the URI Botanical Gardens, Representative Michael A. Rice of South Kingstown, District 35, presented a RI Legislative House Grant for $2000 to RI 4-H Club Foundation Chairman, David R. Burnham to be used for 4-H youth programming. Dr. Rice is a first term Rhode Island Representative and a seasoned URI professor with the College of the Environment and Life Sciences in the Department of Fisheries, Animals and Veterinary Sciences. The URI/CELS 4-H Program provides educational opportunities in science, citizenship and healthy lifestyles for children ages 5 to 19. In cooperation with the university, the RI 4-H Club Foundation provides additional support to the 4-H program by funding a wide variety of the programs for youth. In Rhode Island there are approximately 50 4-H clubs and 320 club leaders serving 1000 youth. This grant from Rep. Rice will help fund the 4-H public speaking program and also provide educational materials and opportunities for youth and their local 4-H clubs.
